It is the only reservation in Alaska, and it is home to the Tsimshian people, who are of the Tsimshian Nation. The island is located in the northern part of the Inside Passage and has an area of about 10 square miles. The climate of Annette Island Reserve is humid and temperate. The average temperatures range from 50°F (10°C) to 75°F (24°C) throughout the year. The climate is generally mild with cool summers and mild winters. Rainfall is abundant and records show that the average rainfall is around 100 inches (254 cm) per year. Snowfall is infrequent and usually occurs in the higher elevations on the island.
