It is located in the northern part of the state, about an hour and a half northwest of Green Bay and an hour and a half northeast of Wausau. The city is located on the Wisconsin River and is close to the Wisconsin-Michigan border. Rhinelander has a humid continental climate, with cold, snowy winters and warm, humid summers. Winters are quite cold, averaging around 23°F in January, while summers are warm, averaging around 75°F in July. The city receives an average of 29 inches of snow per year, with a majority of it falling between December and March.
