Fairfax County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. It borders the City of Alexandria, Arlington County, and the independent city of Falls Church in the Commonwealth of Virginia, as well as Washington, D.C. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,081,726, making it the most populous jurisdiction in the Commonwealth of Virginia; its population is larger than that of five states and the District of Columbia. The climate of Fairfax County is generally humid subtropical with hot, humid summers and generally cool winters. Summers are hot and humid with average high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s F (30s C). Winters are cool to cold with average lows in the upper 20s to mid 30s F (-2 to 5 C). Precipitation is abundant throughout the year with a slight peak in the summer months. Snowfall varies from year to year, but most winters will see at least a few inches of snow.
