Mount Rainier is an active volcano in the Cascade Range in the US state of Washington. It is the highest mountain in the state and the Cascade Range, standing at 14,411 feet (4,392 m) above sea level. The mountain is located about 54 miles (87 km) southeast of Seattle and is a popular destination for hikers, climbers, and skiers. The climate and average weather year round at Mount Rainier is generally mild and wet. Summers are generally warm and sunny, with temperatures ranging from 50 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit (10 to 21 degrees Celsius). Winters are cold and wet, with snowfall accumulating throughout the season, usually beginning in late October and ending in late May. Rainfall is frequent throughout the year, with an average of over 90 inches (2,300 mm) annually.
